Blue cocktails are also extremely versatile. You can use them for practically any occasion. There’s the Fourth of July, Easter, bachelor parties, and more. You could even use the mocktail versions for boy baby showers! There are also lots of themed parties where blue drinks work well. Plus, they’re so gorgeous, you don’t even need a reason to enjoy them. For this list, I’ve included 17 of the loveliest, tastiest blue cocktails I know. Who knows? You may just find your new favorite mixed drink!
1. Blue Hawaiian
The Blue Hawaiian is one of the most aptly named drinks you’ll ever see. It’s unbelievably blue, and thanks to all the tropical ingredients – coconut rum, pineapple juice, etc. – it’s very Hawaii-esque, as well. If you like sweet, colorful drinks, this is the one for you.
2. Blue Moon
You won’t be “standing alone” for long with this slushie, creamy blue drink. It’s so thick, rich, and charming that people will be asking you about it all night. It’s sweet, citrusy, and strong, and if you don’t already love it, that’s just because you haven’t tried it yet!
3. Jack Frost Cocktail
Whether you’re looking for the ideal holiday cocktail or are trying to stay in character as Elsa at a Halloween party, the Jack Frost cocktail is stunningly perfect. It just looks cold and icy, like a winter storm in a glass. The blue curacao provides the color, and the ice makes it slushy and icy. You absolutely cannot leave out the flaked coconut on the rim, though. That’s what really seals the deal and makes the whole thing look like an icy, snow-covered treat. The taste is rich and tropical and somewhat similar to the Blue Hawaiian.
4. Blueberry Mojito
The color of this actual drink is pinkish-red, but you’ll add deep blue blueberries (and green limes and mint) to the glass, so it still has a bit of blue in it. Plus, this one is just too flavorful to leave off the list. The tartness of the berries complements the traditional minty mojito flavor exceptionally well.
5. Blue Curacao Mojito
If you’re looking for a mojito that’s actually blue – and not just filled with blueberries – check out this recipe for the blue curacao mojito instead. You’ll make it from simple syrup, club soda, lime, mint leaves, white rum, blue curacao, and a half cup of ice. It shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to pull it together, and it’s so bright and vibrant that you’ll see it shining from a mile away.
6. Rum Blue Island Cocktail
Looking for a drink so blue that it glows under a black light? This is it! It’s also deliciously tropical, with coconut rum, white rum, blue curacao, pineapple juice, Sprite, and maraschino cherries. The double dose of rum makes it a pretty strong drink, as well, so go slowly and don’t overdo it just because these drinks taste so yummy.
7. Blue Lagoon Cocktail
The Blue Lagoon cocktail may look just like the Blue Island cocktail, but their tastes couldn’t be more different. While the Blue Island is rummy and tropical, the Blue Lagoon is vodka-filled and tart, thanks to its lemonade base. If sour drinks aren’t your thing, you may have to add a bit of extra sugar.
8. Ocean Water
This gorgeous three-ingredient, 3-minute drink is so blue that even the most picturesque ocean water can’t compete. It has a strong vodka flavor and takes almost no effort to make. Simply add ice to a glass. Then, pour the blue curacao, followed by the coconut vodka. Top the whole thing off with Sprite, and give it a little stir to mix everything. Voila! You’re all set!
9. Vista Blue
The vista blue is just as uncomplicated and quick as the ocean water. Mix vodka, pineapple juice, and blue curacao in a glass, with or without ice, as you prefer. You’ll get a lovely, sea-green/aqua color and a slightly bitter but still tasty pineapple and vodka flavor that leaves no doubt about what’s in the glass.
10. Gatorade Margarita
This 10-minute margarita uses more ingredients than most of the drinks on our list, but making it is still as simple as sugar-salting the rim, mixing the ingredients in a pitcher, and stirring. The sweet and salty rim is tasty and beautiful, and the drink itself is tangy and has a bit of tequila in every sip.
11. Coconut Gin and Tonic
I know what you’re thinking: That drink isn’t blue! You’re right, of course. However, you can easily make it blue by adding a dash of blue curacao (or simple blue food coloring). This fresh, minty drink tastes like the original gin and tonic, only with a coconut kick. And since gin and tonics are so popular, I thought I’d add the recipe here even though it isn’t blue — YET!
12. Chi-Chi Cocktail
I’m not sure why most blue cocktails have a tropical taste and share such similar ingredients. However, that does seem to be the case. If you’re looking for a tropical blue drink that’s a bit sweeter, a lot colder, and has some extra creaminess, try the chi-chi cocktail. You’ll make it with vodka, blue curacao, cream of coconut, pineapple, crushed ice, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. And trust me, that single scoop makes all the difference.
13. Barbados Sunrise
If you’re old enough to have ever chased down the ice cream truck in the 90s, you probably remember Firecracker and Lick-a-Color popsicles. That’s what the Barbados sunrise looks like — a tri-colored drink with reddish-orange at the bottom, orangey-yellow in the middle, and bluish-green at the top. If seeing this drink doesn’t fill you with nostalgia, then I don’t know what will. I love this drink for that pull on my heartstrings alone, but it also tastes divine. It’s fruity and tart and has nice undertones of rum. It’s the ideal summer drink.
14. Red, White, and Blue Cocktail
And while we’re on the subject of Firecracker popsicles, I thought I’d go ahead and add in the red, white, and blue cocktail, as well. You’ll frequently see this patriotic drink on Independence Day, Labor Day, and summer barbecues. It has the same balance of sweet and sour that its lemonade base has, and it’s unbelievably refreshing. You’ll make it with grenadine, lemonade, vodka, blue curacao, and ice. Best of all, it shouldn’t take you more than 5 minutes to whip it up.
15. Ocean Bleu Cocktail
This zesty, bittersweet drink is so blue, it nearly glows in the dark, so if you’re going to a blackout party or a black light-filled rave-themed one, you’ll love this cocktail. It’s also ideal for people who don’t like overly sweet drinks, and despite its dainty, magical appearance, this drink is strong.
16. Mad Eye Martini
The Mad Eye martini is another mixed drink that’s ideal for a few different occasions. Harry Potter-themed parties are one, of course, but those gross eyeballs make it perfect as a spooky, icky Halloween drink, too. It’s a light, fruity, and tangy drink that you’ll make from vodka, Hpnotiq, lychee juice, red fruit preserves, lychees, and blueberries. And yes, that eyeball looks as creepy and real in person as it does in the picture. It gives me the heebie-jeebies!
17. Mermaid Cocktail
If you’re looking for a drink that really does look like you dipped it out of the depths of the ocean, the mermaid cocktail is perfect for that. It’s a relatively light drink, and depending on whether you use lemonade or cream soda as your base, it will be tartly sweet or sweetly tart.
